If any of you out there don’t know where this picture is from, you need to find your way off my blog and never come back. Walk far and long to the vastness that is the internet and find another blog to waste time on because I want no part of you.
Alright I am just kidding but seriously, go on Netflix right now and watch the movie Office Space. It will change your life. This will still be here when you’re done now get to it…
My Lucky Pen
So how was it?
One of the greatest movies ever made, right?
Alright good. Well the infamous stapler in that movie got me thinking about me and my lucky pen (see here). I was curious to see if anyone reading this might have some sort of silly superstition that they can’t help but follow?
Now I really am not that superstitious of a guy and I don’t believe in anything too crazy. No ghosts or demons. But I really do feel a sort of connection with my lucky pen.
It’s kind of stupid I know, but I got the thing when I was in middle school and I have refilled the ink since. I don’t let it leave my office and definitely don’t let anyone else use it.
I don’t necessarily think that it’s lucky literally. But I do like the vibe I get when I am around it and I like the memories I have had with it. Sometimes it’s fun just to have and use something that has been with you for so long.
Any of you guys have anything you keep around and you don’t really know why?
If you caught my last post, you would know that I have a weird infatuation with pens. There is something that feels so good and professional when you use a nice pen to sign your name or fill out some documents. I really am a simple man aren’t I?
Make My Lazy Day Lazier
So next to pens, my second favorite office supply would have to be a nice computer chair. I really don’t think I would be able to get through my day if it weren’t for one of my more recent purchases.
This my friends is a Herman Miller Embody computer chair and it cost me almost $1,200 and I am not ashamed of it.
Let me clarify something real quick because the more I am reading this whole blog back to myself I think I painting myself in a pretty horrifying picture. I am not an overweight monster like the guy who played World of Warcraft in South Park. I am actually very skinny and do not have the ability to gain weight, no matter how unhealthy I eat. And I am not complaining about any of this either, I just don’t want you to have the wrong idea.
So as you may remember, I work from home and spend most of my day at my desk and in my computer chair. So spending over a grand on a chair is completely justifiable and I have no shame.
Any of you have any purchases that you are proud of but most other people would think you’re insane for? Leave a comment if you think you have something that can top Mont Blanc.
So after writing about those stupid stress balls, I started to change my thinking away from things that are useless to things that I could only dream of having.
If you caught my first post, you saw that I briefly mentioned my love for nice pens. When I was in college, the majority of my notes, papers, and exams were all hand written. Yeah, this might sound crazy to the younger ones out there but that’s how it was. I never really used a keyboard and I definitely did not have a laptop to carry around everywhere. I loved growing up in the time that I did. I kind of feel like I got a happy medium of pretty handy and fun technology but I still had a childhood like the ones you see in the movies and it was some of the most fun times of my life.
Oh how good life used to be…
Alright I am getting off-track, back to the pens. Well without the access to a keyboard at all times, I was forced to use my pens. And I loved them. Whenever I got a fresh brand new pack of pens in middle school I would be so excited to try them out at school the next day.
After going off about the stress balls, I went to good ol’ google and just started researching the most expensive pens in the world and I have found the long lost love of my life.
That my friends, is a Meisterstück Solitaire Blue Hour Skeleton 149 and it is $8,700.
If I could just sign my name on one piece of paper with this pen, I would die a happy man.
Who Uses These?
Now that you know what my favorite office supply is, I am going to take the time to bash one of my least favorites. Has anyone out there ever really found those dumb little stress ball things to be useful or actually work in the slightest?
I guess in theory, they seem like they might actually be a pretty good idea. I have put this theory to test however and have drawn the conclusion that the hypothesis had not been supported through further evidence and have deemed these to be utterly useless.
Maybe a Joke?
My best guess would be that they still can even make these things because people are buying them as gag gifts. I imagine they are kind of fun to just mess around with if you are one who likes to “fidget” at their desk like I do.
I always have to be either tapping my foot or twirling one of my favorite pens in my hands when I am at my desk. I really envy those who can just sit in peace and not have some constant motion in play at all times. Interestingly enough, I just recently saw a video on YouTube that was covering a story about a recent study done on those who fidget at their desk. Although they couldn’t find a reason for it, the researchers found that those who fidget at their desk were much less likely to develop serious health problems that can accumulate over the years from sitting at your chair slouched over staring at a computer screen all day.
Maybe I don’t envy those people so much anymore…
Hello everyone and welcome to a place where nerds like us, or maybe those who just work in an office, can come and share some of the favorites when it comes to office supplies and toys that make our lives easier.
Anyone else out there that have a junk drawer that you could only dream looks this neat and put together? Are you telling me I am the only one who has a drawer and all around office that looks like a tornado rummaged through it? That is one thing I could never really get a set routine for.
Let clarify a little bit. I am not a dirty person by any means. I am actually somewhat of a “germaphobe” when it comes to being clean and germs. I actually carry around a little bottle of hand sanitizer pretty much everywhere I go and I probably apply more than I need to but hey it makes me feel better.
A personal favorite of mine would have to be my pen holder that I have in my office. I don’t know what it is about pens, but I love them. I love the feel of a new and smooth pen and I actually look forward to using one if I ever get a new one or if I have something to do.
What can I say? I am kind of a weird guy as you can probably tell by now and this is going to be a place where no judgement will be passed.
Stay tuned for more from Mont Blanc!
